The Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG) has launched the ISG International Fellowship Program, a new initiative to enhance the clinical skills and advanced training of young gastroenterologists from low- and middle-income countries.
The program will provide an opportunity for selected candidates to undergo supervised clinical training and gain academic exposure at one of the leading gastroenterology centres across India.
Through this initiative, the ISG aims to promote education and training in Gastroenterology, foster international collaboration, and strengthen professional networking.
- Number of Fellowships: Four fellowships each year
- Duration: 6 months to 1 year
- Financial Support: One-time sustenance grant of USD 5,000 per fellow
- Travel Support: One return economy-class airfare
- Host Institution: Applicants may indicate their preferred host institution in India, subject to its acceptance and approval by the ISG council
- Placement: Each host institution may accommodate one international fellow at a time
Eligibility Criteria
- Young gastroenterologist within three years of completing fellowship training.
- Applicants from a low- or middle-income country, as per the applicable World Bank classification.
- Proficiency in English to participate effectively in clinical and academic activities.
- Approval from their parent institution.
Application Requirements
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (maximum three pages).
- Statement of Purpose (one page) outlining training objectives and area of interest.
- A letter of recommendation from the Head of Department or training supervisor.
- Proof of current employment or specialist training.
- Preferred host institution in India.
- Copy of the passport identification page.
Selection Process
The final placement and scope of training will be determined by the ISG council in consultation with the selected fellow and host institution. The proposed training will be subject to institutional and regulatory requirements in India, including visa and temporary medical registration by the National Medical Commission as and when applicable.
